Temperatures in Ohio can get downright frigid, sometimes getting as low as 17 degrees and hitting an average high of around 34 degrees in January. We also get more than our share of snow, ice and freezing rain. Those are all good reasons to bring your Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac XT5 or XT6 to our Cadillac service center for a winter checkup. By having us do a series of winter safety checks at Graham Cadillac in Mansfield, OH, we can help keep you and your family safe throughout the Ohio winter.
Wintertime check #1: Let us check your battery
You've probably noticed that, from a personal standpoint, it can be much harder to get going on a cold winter morning in Wooster or Medina, OH. If you think winter is hard on you, just think about the job your battery has to do. Cold temperatures make it much tougher for your battery to provide the power it's supposed to give you, especially first thing in the morning. Ask us to do a load test to see if you have enough sustained power to do the job. If not, we have excellent batteries in stock and we will be happy to install one for you.
Wintertime check #2: Let us check your brakes
Your brakes are clearly some of the most important safety components on your car, especially when you're traveling over Ohio roadways that are covered with ice, snow or rain. You can tell if your brake pads are beginning to wear out when you hear a high-pitched squeak each time you step on the brake pedal. If that starts happening, we can install new brake pads and if we take action early enough, we can help you avoid having to also replace your rotors which are more expensive than pads.
Wintertime check #3: Let us check your tires
The tires on your Cadillac are the ultimate points of contact between your family and the road beneath you. That's why you should ask us to examine the tread depth on your tires to make sure you have enough good rubber to travel safely on winter roads. If you have anything less than 4/32nds of an inch, we will recommend that you get a new set of tires. We have a first-class selection of new tires in stock and we can install them, giving you professional mounting and balancing.
Wintertime check #4: Have us do an alignment check
Whether or not you get new tires, it’s important to have us do a wheel alignment to make sure you're tracking properly. Of course, winter can be hard on our Ohio roads and that’s why you could easily hit a pothole hard as you’re driving around Ashland or Canton, OH. That alone might be enough to knock your wheels out of alignment. That's why it's such a good idea to have us do an alignment check every time you get your oil changed. If you need an alignment, we can give you an expert job that will help you get back on track for winter.
Wintertime check #5: Ask us to check your antifreeze
Antifreeze is a chemically-treated liquid that's designed to help keep the water in your engine’s cooling system from freezing when the outside air turns ice cold in winter. Antifreeze works by lowering the freezing point of the water in your radiator. When outside temperatures drop into the freezing zone, coolant gets pumped through your engine block and helps your Cadillac maintain a safe, even temperature. We can be sure you have enough antifreeze and provide a flush and refill if it’s needed.
